Our people

A Steering Committee (SC), comprising of founding and actively involved donors, directs the strategy. They analyse and approve grants and use their personal networks to broaden the base of supporters. The SC members have a wide array of backgrounds and interests but all share a passion for the environmental protection of Barbados.

Our local team consists of one person as the local Executive Director in charge of day-to-day management and coordination work on the ground, assisted by advisors and the SC.

And of course, we are eternally grateful to our supporters for their contribution to the BECT by way of financial donation and/or time!

LOCAL TEAM

  • Ché Greenidge

    Executive Director

Ché is no stranger to the environmental space as her passion for environmental conservation began from her early teens through small acts of service. She is an avid believer in volunteerism and has spent many years giving back to various non-profits on the island.

Ché holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations, and studied at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus in Barbados and York University in Toronto, Canada. Her years of experience in the non-profit sector at the local and international level placed climate resilience and sustainability at the forefront of her professional experience. These passions have led to many accomplishments in her NGO career through successful fundraising and grant writing, project development and management, and communications. Ché is known in the industry for ‘getting things done’. Her dedication to the growth of the non-profit sector, or Third Sector, is fuelled by her belief that NGOs will positively change the landscape and future of Barbados.

“Grassroots organisations need as much support as possible. They are the boots on the ground, closest to the everyday situations and ideas for solutions that will drive major impact. I am privileged to continue this tremendous work at the BECT.”

  • Ria Harrison

    PROJECT MANAGER

Ria is a graduate-qualified Environmental Manager and Consultant, specialising in water resources management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable facilities management. Through her career, she collaborates with several non-governmental organisations, (at the national level and of scale), to strategically develop, implement, and monitor diverse project portfolios which essentially focus on encouraging and facilitating entities in the transformation of being more environmentally-conscious, and sustainable, with their planning, execution of daily operations, and product and/or service offerings. At heart, Ria continues to be an avid learner with a curious mind and she aims to use her knowledge for the overall sustainability of global, socio-environmental development.

  • Asantie Murrell

    PROJECT OFFICER

Asantie is a multifaceted consultant with impactful work in development areas such as renewable energy, environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship and private sector engagement under her belt. She has served with international and regional organisations, in addition to non-profit organisations based in Haiti, New York and Barbados.

Throughout her career, she has gained a comprehensive understanding of the multidimensional challenges facing our planet and the ways in which sustainable practices can help shape a more resilient future. Asantie continues to seek opportunities to put her knowledge into action, including leveraging her business acumen to develop sustainable strategies towards advancing development goals.

OUR STEERING COMMITTEE

Our Way

We strongly believe that supporting local resources can make a strong positive impact and bring about serious long-lasting change!

To do so, we raise money from people all over the world, as well as from local individuals and businesses that care and rely on the future of Barbados. We ensure funds are directed appropriately and are dedicated to supporting the most effective environmental projects and campaigns. We support organizations, experts, individuals and associations already present in Barbados, who are working to protect and restore the natural environment and trying to influence both policy and practice.

Our funding is flexible, independent and long term.
