BECT & WIRRED Are Running For Restoration At Run Barbados 2024

We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with the upcoming Run Barbados Marathon 2024 to combine fitness with sustainability! We’re teaming up the Run BarbadosWIRRED and Walkers Reserve to reduce the marathon’s environmental footprint while raising awareness about the vital wetland ecosystem at Long Pond, St. Andrew, one of the key landmarks on route of the races. BECT is proud to have supported the ongoing restoration work of one its key features, the Long Pond Estuary, which is one of the last of its kind on the east coast. BECT and WIRRED will be running together as a team to spotlight the importance of wetland restoration during the 5K race on December 7th.

Walkers Reserve is one of Barbados’ most remarkable landscapes—a complex ecosystem covering over 300 acres. Sand dunes, sandstone cliffs, forests, clay hills, ponds, and wetlands all come together to create a vibrant natural haven.

Recognising that balancing outdoor enjoyment with environmental preservation is crucial, this collaboration is just the beginning! Together with Run Barbados, we’re laying the foundation for more sustainable practices, including a reduction in single-use plastics and fostering lasting behavioral change.

On The Route!
You can also look out for our team’s water station featuring eco-friendly cups, setting an example for greener sporting events.

Special thanks to the Run Barbados, WIRRED and Walkers Reserve for making this initiative possible!

Join us in making the Run Barbados Marathon a step forward for both fitness and sustainability!
