Syntropic Agriculture Course: A Regenerative Agroforestry System
USD $3,980 awarded
This project was a course facilitated by the Caribbean Permaculture Research Institute (CPRI) of Barbados in teaching Syntropic Agriculture. Taught by international educator, Thiago Barbosa, its goal was to spread regenerative knowledge by providing the education and demonstration of sound regenerative farming principles using a whole systems approach to local farmers. BECT sponsored 8 local farmers to attend this Syntropic Agriculture Course.
The system was suited to those who are interested in longer-term tree crops as a long term goal, as it provides a viable means of creating an organic system that supports the health of the tree crop over time while supporting the farmer with viable short-term income. This regenerative system supports and builds soil health by design. This project supported BECT values of regenerative farming, food security, community resilience and sustainable livelihoods go hand in hand. The project invested in our local farmers’ education and in turn invested in our future health and wellbeing.
